Structural Engineer (Chesapeake, VA)

The AtG Structural Engineer will work on project teams and help lead/manage projects to create high level designs for new projects, renovations, and retrofits/repairs on a variety of projects including: Industrial, Commercial, Federal, Single-Family, Multi-Family, Specialty and Modular, and Prototype.  Candidate must be self-motivated, able to independently produce a set of biddable construction documents and coordinate with clients.  Strong building design skills in wood, steel, concrete and CMU are preferred.  AtG Engineering is a rapidly growing small firm with tremendous growth opportunity.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Ability to manage / lead projects from concept to construction documents and follow projects through construction alongside client and contractor.
  • Prepare design calculation packages, drawings, and design specifications in accordance with AtG  Engineering standards.
  • Perform quality reviews for engineering work products executed by AtG Engineering.
  • Perform construction support related tasks including shop drawings reviews, response to RFIs, site observations, and specialized structural inspections.
  • Minimum 4-days in office with Friday FLEX

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) or related degree (Minimum GPA 3.75 strongly preferred).
  • Minimum of 4-years of experience with full P.E. Licensure in at least one U.S. state
  • P.E. exam passed must be civil breadth-structural depth
  • Prior experience in building design with mastery of wood, concrete, steel, and CMU materials in structural designs.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis design package (RISA 3-D, RAM, SAP 2000, or other)
  • Ability to use Revit 3-D and AutoCAD for drafting related activities.
  • Expert in MS Office suite (especially excel – VBA a bonus).
  • Ability to independently create calculation templates utilizing MCAD, SMATH, excel or other means and prepare hand calculations when necessary.
