This is a full-time, predominantly in-office position. While we value flexibility, we believe face-to-face collaboration is key to fostering a strong team culture.
WHO WE ARE
Established in 2000, Brown + Kubican (BK) has grown to approximately 50 employees in two offices. BK provides structural engineering consultation and prime-consultant related structural services; including design, analysis, and investigation. BK is licensed in 29 states and
territories and our work spreads across the United States and Carribean, though the majority of work and project travel is local. As the largest Kentucky-based structural engineering firm, our expanding staff consists of professional engineers, engineers-in-training, BIM technicians, and administrative support; all dedicated to pushing boundaries and driving innovation.
BK is proficient in most types of structural systems including structural steel, mass timber, masonry, concrete, and conventional wood/cfs framing. We thoroughly design and detail every structure and prefer full design over design-delegation. We share patents in timber construction methods and have won ICF Builder National Awards for insulated form construction awarded at World of Concrete 3 of the last four years. We pursue self-improvement and engage PSMJ to evaluate and improve our processes - through which BK has been awarded the 2022 Premier Award for Client Satisfaction (#1 in United States), 2022 Employer of Choice Award for Committed Employee Engagement (Top 10 in US), and 2024 Circle of Excellence (Top 20 percent in US).
WHAT WE DO
BK provides consultation for buildings of all types, sizes, and material systems using structural
analysis and BIM software. We have extensive experience with healthcare, educational,
institutional, recreational, commercial, hospitality, industrial, religious, and residential uses;
and are equally adept at renovation, renewal, adaptive reuse, and new construction. We deliver
design through fast - track, design - bid - build, design - build, and public / private / partnership
to best serve the Owner. We frequently work with both Construction Managers and General
Contractors. We also provide component design and construction engineering services -
including shoring, bracing, load path verification, delegated design, value engineering, and
bid consultation - as well as forensic, performance, and due-diligence investigations, condition
assessments, and feasibility studies.
BK provides a growing prime-consultant design service to our clients wherein we select and manage a team of engineering and architectural consultants for industrial, structural upgrade, and reconstruction services.
OUR APPROACH
The engineers at BK are passionate about the design and construction of structures of all types.
Through close client relations and early involvement, we excel at developing design solutions
that optimize structural performance while maintaining cost efficiency. Our culture promotes
excellent design, responsiveness and personal service at every level within our firm. We
consistently produce complete, highly-detailed and well-coordinated construction documents
to clearly convey the design intent. We place great attention on constructability and emphasize
the importance of simple details that consider construction means and methods. We integrate
quality assurance throughout the design process and are devoted to thorough coordination
and review, resulting in competitive bidding and reduced risk of costly change orders during
construction. BK embraces five key core values: Excellence, Integrity, Team Empowerment,
Added Value, and Responsiveness. These drive us to empower and inspire through our work
by delivering unparalleled results for the entire project team - results that extend well after
construction is completed.
Continuing education and quality control are integral to our culture. Intentional (company paid) education is offered through annual conference retreats, monthly webinars, and weekly in-house teaching and sharpening lessons. We reward senior staff with added yearly education retreats and select EIT the opportunity for national conferences - 2 of fourteen 2024 NCSEA young-engineer national conference scholarships and a 2025 WoodWorks Mass Timber Conference scholarship were from BK. Our corporate structure promotes mentoring, with our EIT often in-turn mentoring students.
