Tarantino Engineering Consultants, P.C. (TEC) is an engineering consulting firm specializing in three practice areas: Structural Design, Forensic Engineering, and Steel Connection Design. Since 2013 our clients have trusted us to work on high profile, award winning design projects such as Diageo’s Guinness Open Gate Brewery, Merriweather Post Pavilion roof reconstruction and loge coverings, the Medstar Headquarters, UVA Alderman Library, and the McCormick Headquarters. However, you’ll find the same attention to detail, work ethic, and enthusiasm in the over 300 projects our team works on every year throughout the country.
What makes us unique among engineering firms is that our three practice areas are all in house and integrated. Our forensic practice continuously teaches us what designs go wrong in buildings, as well as arms us with invaluable knowledge to incorporate into our structural designs. And our steel connection design practice is a specialty, not offered by many other design firms.
We enjoy the creativity of the design while remaining keenly aware of construction budget, striking a balance that limits cost overruns while delivering the vision of the Owner.
Structural Design Practice
TEC provides full service design of mid-rise spec office, religious institutions, restaurants, airport terminals, car dealerships breweries, museums, parking garages, hotels, hospitals, warehouses, retail centers, and multi- and single-family residential structures. This practice also includes:
Tenant Improvements:
Structural support for rooftop units, mezzanines, folding partitions, UPS rooms, filing systems, communicating stairs, generators, cooking hoods, make up air, and more.
Site Structure Design:
Retaining walls, culverts, diversion chambers, manholes, and tower foundations.
Steel Connection Design Practice
When structural steel connections are “design delegated,” TEC provides engineering for shear, lateral force resisting system bracing, and moment connections for all types
of structural steel buildings. We utilize Descon, RAM Connection, and custom “in-house” developed software.
Forensic Engineering Practice
TEC investigates the cause, origin, and extent of building damage and collapse due to snow, wind, deterioration, earthquake, explosion, fire, vehicle impact, and water.
Those clients typically include subrogation attorneys, insurance companies, building owners, restoration contractors, and homeowners. This practice also includes:
Assessment, Feasibility and Seismic Compliance Studies:
Prior to building purchase or renovation, we assess structures for short and long-term repair needs, provide structural feasibility studies for renovations and additions, and seismic compliance studies typically required for federal contractor tenant leasing.
At TEC, we pride ourselves on our strong customer service, attention-to-detail, hands-on approach and dedicated attention that we offer to our select group of clients. We collaborate smoothly with all members of your team, making sure we take each perspective (architects, contractors, developers and fabricators) into account before executing designs. It’s why the most frequent compliment we get is “I didn’t know an engineering company could work like this.”
